Our Team

At the Social Research Centre (SRC), we are committed to helping train the next generation of social science researchers. Our student workers receive practical, hands-on experience in all aspects of applied social science research, including study and questionnaire design, data collection, analysis and presentation.

Brendan Nolan, Communications and Marketing Officer

Brendan Nolan - Student Volunteer

TEAM MEMBER SINCE SPRING 2017

Brendan Nolan is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Ontario Tech University majoring in Political Science and minoring in Communications. He began volunteering in 2017, and is now the SRC's Communications and Marketing Officer. He is interested in Canadian politics and how government policies affect citizens on a macro level. His work at the SRC has helped him develop an understanding of how policy affects people on all levels. He is interested in dealing with public and government relations as well as the development and sustainability of Durham Region. In working for Ontario Tech, his goal is to help better the community, while developing his own skills along the way.

Gibran Khan, Corporate Engagement Officer

TEAM MEMBER SINCE FALL 2018

Gibran Khan is a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Criminology and Justice and has hopes of continuing his education into post-graduate studies. He joined the SRC team in the fall of 2018 as a volunteer to explore new avenues of research with a particular interest in survey design and analysis. He is now the SRC's Corporate Engagement Officer. His research interests include power imbalances within Canada as well as various local injustices. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Gibran is interested in either completing graduate school or entering the police force.

Zarah Javaid, Research Assistant

TEAM MEMBER SINCE SPRING 2018

Zarah Javaid is an undergraduate student majoring in Criminology and Justice and minoring in Communication and Digital Media Studies. She joined the SRC team in the spring of 2018 as a volunteer to gain new skills in research and create connections among the community of Durham Region. Zarah now works as an ongoing Research Assistant with community partners. Her research interests include examining the relationship of poverty and homelessness. She is interested in developing her professional skills to help pursue graduate school and potentially a career working in the realm of community development.

Domenic Johnson-Mele, Research Assistant

Domenic Johnson-Mele

TEAM MEMBER SINCE SPRING 2017

Domenic Johnson-Mele is an undergraduate student majoring in Criminology and Justice, and minoring in Political Science. He is interested in the way laws and policies are created and is interested in earning a law degree. His interest in the SRC came from the opportunity to learn about how statistics are read and how proper research methods are carried out on a professional level and how these methods can help various types of communities. Outside of the university, Domenic is a competitive martial artist and theatre performer who enjoys the creativity and expression that result from these activities.
